Project - Sir Bobby Robson

Goffy is pictured on the right hosting the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation Golf Day, at the Rockcliffe Hall Hotel near Darlingon.

This prestigious event was attended by many familiar faces, including Alan Shearer, Niall Quinn, former England Manager Steve McLaren and Middlesbrough Chairman Steve Gibson,

This annual event is organised by Sir Bobby's family to keep his memory alive and to raise money for his Foundation which aims to help cancer patients in the North East.

Sir Bobby's sons Paul. Andrew and Mark are the Trustees of the charity, which helped fund the Sir Bobby Robson Cancer Trials Research Centre, which Sir Bobby opened himself in 2009, shortly before his sad death from the disease, aged 76.

Goffy hosted the evening event, which consisted of a Dinner with an Awards Ceremony, as well as a Question & Answer session with some of the celebrities. On the left is Goffy pictured with Steve McLaren at the event, and on the right. chatting with Sir Bobby's widow, Lady Elsie Robson.

Celebrity Golf Days are a great way for charities to raise funds, as it gives people a unique chance to mix with big names that they would normally only see on TV, as well as giving businesses the chance to sponsor such events.

Goffy had a long association with Sir Bobby Robson.

He is pictured on the right interviewing Bobby for Century Radio in  September 1999 when he first came to Newcastle United as Manager.

At that time Century Radio was the leading station for Football coverage in the North East, so Bobby regularly appeared on the station, including on Paul's Goffy in the Morning Breakfast Show.

Impressionist Kevin Connelly, one of the regulars on BBC's 'Dead Ringers', would regularly appear on Goffy's show impersonating Sir Bobby with outrageous statements, which Bobby himself loved.

AXA Insurance sponsored this event, to help raise funds for struggling Blyth Spartans. It was a live event covered by Century Radio, in which listeners could win the chance to come and be photographed holding the cup with the footballing legend.

Ever since those early days, Goffy has kept in touch with the Robson family, and was delighted to be invited to host the special Charity event in memory of the great man.
